Historic bronze medal for Montenegro at the international “Macedonian Pearl” tournament

The Wrestling Federation of Montenegro achieved a historic success by winning its first medal at an official international tournament held under the auspices of United World Wrestling (UWW), marking a major step in the return of Montenegrin wrestling to the international scene.

At the international freestyle wrestling tournament “Macedonian Pearl”, held on 30 May 2026 in Radoviš, North Macedonia, ten national teams from the region took part. The tournament brought together a large number of quality competitors, including medal winners from European and World Championships, which further confirms its importance and the level of competition.

The Montenegrin delegation consisted of Dževat Kolenović, Andrija Rašović and Emir Delijić, accompanied by club coach Vladan Baković.

In extremely strong competition, the biggest success was achieved by Dževat Kolenović, who won the bronze medal in the 125-kilogram category and thus brought the first international distinction to the newly re-established Wrestling Federation of Montenegro. This result represents a historic moment for Montenegrin wrestling, especially considering that the Federation resumed its work less than a year ago after a long break.

What gives this success special value is the fact that Kolenović is still a junior, yet he won the medal while competing in the senior division against older and more experienced opponents. His result confirms the great potential of young Montenegrin wrestlers, as well as the quality of the professional work being carried out in the clubs and the Federation.

A notable performance was also delivered by Andrija Rašović, who finished the competition in a very good fifth place, while Emir Delijić gained valuable international experience through participation in such a strong tournament, experience that will be of great importance for his further sporting development.

Dževat Kolenović’s bronze medal represents much more than a sporting result. It confirms that significant success can be achieved through dedicated work, unity and commitment even after years of stagnation. This result gives additional momentum to the further development of wrestling in Montenegro and serves as a strong motivation for future generations of athletes.

The Wrestling Federation of Montenegro continues to build the foundations for future success, and the historic bronze from the “Macedonian Pearl” tournament will remain recorded as the first international medal in the new era of Montenegrin wrestling.
