First press conference of the Wrestling Federation of Montenegro held after re-establishment

The Wrestling Federation of Montenegro held its first press conference after the federation’s re-establishment, presenting activities carried out so far and announcing the upcoming appearance of a Montenegrin athlete at the U23 European Championship.

The federation’s president, Boris Bošković, highlighted that significant progress has been made since the federation was re-established in July 2025 in the organization and development of wrestling in Montenegro.

“The federation was founded by five clubs, and over the following months three more clubs joined, so today the federation brings together a total of eight clubs with more than 120 registered athletes,” said Bošković.

One of the first key steps was reintegrating Montenegro into the international wrestling community through membership in the European and World wrestling federations, enabling Montenegrin athletes to compete again in official international events.

In December last year, a national championship was organized, restarting the domestic competition system. For this year, national championships are planned across all age categories in Olympic wrestling styles, as well as competitions in non-Olympic disciplines such as Grappling. Launching a wrestling league in Olympic styles is also planned for June.

A strong focus was placed on professional development, and in February the first seminar for coaches and referees in Olympic wrestling was organized. In parallel, the federation launched its official website (www.rvackisavez.me), which will be further developed as the central digital platform for federation news and the development of wrestling in Montenegro.

A three-year development plan for 2026–2028 was also presented, covering expansion of the wrestling base, improvements in coaching and officiating, infrastructure development, and greater participation of Montenegrin athletes in international competitions.

A dedicated segment of the conference announced the U23 European Championship, to be held from 9 to 15 March in Zrenjanin, Serbia.

Montenegro will be represented by Matija Radojević, competing in Greco-Roman wrestling in the 82 kg category, supported by his coach Vladan Baković. His category is scheduled for 14 March.

The federation noted that this competition is particularly significant as it marks the first return of Montenegrin wrestlers to the European stage after more than 12 years.

The conference concluded by highlighting the federation’s first partnership with B22 Solutions, supporting the federation’s activities and the development of wrestling in Montenegro. The federation stated it is open to new partnerships and cooperation with companies and organizations that wish to support the development of sport and youth in Montenegro.
